Autism and Children


Autism, especially in India are common cases usually encountered by children. Autism is defined as a psychological deficiency which affects communication behavior and shows significant short attention span disorders. Children with autism are regarded as having their own world.

It is believed that identifying traces of autism in children at the early stage is most beneficial for families. Frequently, 1 out of 100 children suffers from autism. Some people believe that the common signs of autism are when a child does not smile nor reacts to the things around him. In as much as they tend to have their own world, they disapprove of being shown affection to or attention. Unlike the normal children, they would want to be cuddled, loved and pampered. Incidentally, people with autism avoids eye contact.


Autism can be pictured as a block of ice. What we see outside is cold and it seems who does not care. However, the truth of the matter is, a part of them internally are having disorders such as communication, sensory dysfunction, social impairments, restricted interest or self insecurity. Another fact about autism is that majority of children who suffers from this ailment are male. What is more sad to this case is, parents who bear a child with autism has the tendency to have succeeding cases in their next children. While it is true that having children with autism is sad, it is still not a reason to be desperate. This now becomes a challenge for us. The next move that we have to take, is to know how to beat the autism and go through it all.

It is a common instinct for people, especially parents, to seek medical help to address autism. Primary medication channel used by doctors are drugs. But, let us not forget that this neuro or psychological drugs might do have side effects. These drugs that are frequently being used can sometimes worsen the scenarios of some unexpected effects or complication. However, we are blinded with the desire of cure and speedy recovery. In fact, medications are also being used for prevention. But is this really the answer?

The first thing that we must do is understand the disease. “Keep your friends, but keep your enemies closer!” These caption is a good example for the cases of autism. To enable us to reach out and give what is proper to these children, we have to penetrate and know what autism really is. This would enable us to easily identify the proper solutions which would lessen, if not harm, our child.

Autism is believed to come from genetic or environment issues. But medically, the brain of an autistic individual is larger than the normal brain. This can also come from vitamin deficiencies when the baby was being carried in the womb of a pregnant mother. Adaptation of the children on environmental issues can also trigger autism. The next question is what can be the cure?

There is no definite cure in autism. But there is such a thing that the defect be controlled. What we can do, is to have an early intervention with these children with autism. A well structured special education program can be done for the child. This can help us determine the interest of the autistic child which can trigger the self skills of the child and lessen other irritations in the child. This can encourage the child to be more creative in his own little world.

We have to determine the proper treatment for an autistic child. Autistic children have different approaches treatment. An autistic case is not always the same. It has its own individuality and solution.
Autistic children commonly have an attitude of short tempered and patience. Next behavior seen in them is the incapability to communicate, loss of interest to listen and incapability to comprehend.

An assessment on each treatment must be done to determine the need of the child. This would help us in the decisions with the treatment for autism. The determinant of the proper approach of treatment will help out as achieve a good ending for the family. The role of the parents in the decision making will be a vital role to the improvement of the child and its future. Nurturing the proper treatment of autism in a child contributes to the individuality of the autistic person when he grows up. While it is true that the deficiencies are present, the behavior becomes controlled.

Autism is not be liked but not to be feared. These individuals have a purpose in every realm of the world which becomes the reason why they exist as they are. They never wanted what they are right now, but as a human, they deserve to be treated as they should be.
