Parenting Guidelines for a Sick or ill Child

When a child falls sick the whole household is in disarray. Depending on the age of the child different approaches are called for.

Causes of Child Fever
There could be several reasons why a child falls ill and for this climatic changes come on top of the list, apart from genetic causes where a child's immunity is at stake. Prophylactic measures can save an older child from falling ill such as checking whether the child (specially a school going child) is in the habit of eating junk food, whether it is found playing in dirty water, whether the child bathes regularly, keeps to normal sleeping hours, keeps to limited time in front the of pc or TV. If one can follow the norm “Prevention is better than cure” a child can remain healthy but it is easier said than done!! It is not possible to keep a constant vigil on a child specially when both the parents work and what happens in that time is difficult to control. Peer pressure is one area where a child engages in activities that are not in the best interest of good health and there is nothing much one can do to detract the child

Teaching a Child Newspapers Reading Habits

The modern world is full of competition where the best and the fittest survive above the good, while the weak, lazy and unfit are abandoned and left to starve. Yet, it is so fortunate that all are born equally built with equal capability of working and learning. However the difference comes as time passes and as one grows up. Mental power and knowledge is the greatest power of man to rise above others. A person with better and new ideas will always be above others. If a children becomes continuous in reading newspapers daily then he will definitely be benefited from that in the long run. Daily Newspapers are one of the most effective ways to get the new ideas. There are different types of news paper that are important for different kinds of people. Choosing the right newspaper for the right person is very important.

Importance of Reading Newspapers
Seeing a bunch of news paper every morning may bore the children and ever spoil their morning bliss if you are forced to do. But the secret lies in reading only the interesting and important topics of the paper. A little time given to the Newspapers everyday will boost up your child intelligence as well your ideas. So it is wise to teach the children to look for the bold and big lines because the important topics are usually highlighted in bold. If they find the bold lines or heading interesting, they may further get into the central idea of what the topic convey. Further, children can read in details if the topic is interesting as well as important. Quantity is not

Bringing Home Foster Child

Childless couples resort to countless means to produce their own child spending huge sums of money and time. Surrogate mothers though in vogue can present countless problems as they might suddenly want to retain that child creating emotions flying all over. All the other methods such as borrowed sperm could also be not quite fair for the father. All said and done it is best to adopt children rather than go in for all those complicated procedures in order that a couple can produce ones own child. There are countless children who have no parents and would be truly happy if they are adopted.

Reason
There are various situations that call for adoption of children, the most common being when couples are not able to produce their own children. Then there are those who have a single child and do not wish to have any more of their own or for some reason cannot have any more. In order that their child has a companion they go in for adoption.

Preventing Child Disputes on Playground

Playing is Necessary for Children
Playing is an essential part of a child’s growing up and in order to play children have to get together. It is not always possible to have a like minded lot or a homogeneous crowd that makes playing a pleasure. If it is in a school the children are monitored but this is not always possible. Most disputes in playgrounds one sees are in neighbourhoods and even clubs. One can reduce disputes in the playground but to eradicate them totally is like asking for the moon. What the child seeks in a playground is justice and each child has its own definition of justice which makes it impossible for them to see eye to eye resulting in disputes that sometimes could get to blows and other physical injuries.

Causes of Child Disputes
There is an inbuilt desire to always get the best deal for oneself and the child is no exception which tempts the child to get benefits that actually do not belong to it and in order to achieve this it will adopt measures that are not fair. When this happens there are bound to be fights. One will find groups formed that take sides which make the playground a battle ground and what started the dispute is forgotten and the whole issue takes an ugly turn prompting elders to step in. But the grudge continues even after the game is over and is carried further for days on end.

Parenting Tips for a Gifted Child

A gifted child is the one who shows signs of expertise in one or more fields. It can also just excel in academics far beyond its peers.

There are set methods for different age levels to check the IQ levels. It is not necessary however that these IQ tests are any parameters to declare a child to be gifted. It may excel only in one particular field and may not show any cleverness in others. IQ testing is no longer considered atleast by some as the judging tool to guage anyone's capabilities. It is more often than not by watching a child's performance that one sees a child's talent and when it excel's far beyond what a child does at that age that that child could be called gifted.

It has been observed that a gifted child isolates itself from others and works on his ideas even at the cost of forgoing other fun activities children of its age indulge in. This sure is an indication that this child needs to be watched. One sees the child watching tv programmes or surfing the net for information on the subject he is specially interested in.

If a child shows interest in painting for example, one will find the walls of that house scribbled all over but those scribbles would have some meaning. It is then that the parents should take from there, encourage the child, appreciate it, see that the child gets time to pursue its interest. There are several other areas a child shows interest. Some have a tremendous memory and one suddenly finds the child answering questions that an adult is supposed to answer. Everyone gets amazed at this phenomena.

Dealing with Increasing Obesity in Childrens and Teenagers

When a child weighs more than a normal child weighs at its age and height then the child is either considered overweight or obese The Body Mass Index is an indicator for which there is a formula which is BMI = [weight / (height x height)] x 703. Unlike adults where there is a standard BMI to determine whether the adult is obese/ overweight or underweight for children it is different. If a 10 year old boy has a BMI of 23 he will be considered obese but not a fifteen year old with the same BMI. It is best left to the expert calculators which make use of several factors when determining the BMI of a child. One needs to just feed in the data in those calculators.
Once the BMI is obtained it could be compared to a chart that is worked by experts which is looks something like this::

Underweight: Less than the 5th percentile
Normal weight:: 5th percentile to less than the 85th percentile
Overweight: 85th to less than the 95th percentile
Obese: Equal to or greater than the 95th percentile

How to Cope With Teenage Stress

Teenage is a transition between childhood and adulthood when changes take place both in mind and body. A teenager will no longer be romping around. Someone who till now was least bothered about his/her behavior becomes conscious and this is the first stress that makes its presence - the awareness of being noticed. And this is just the beginning.

Soon the parents will expect their teenager to become independent in taking care of his/her daily routines which hitherto was the responsibility of the parents. Coping with life and the environment around with no props is sure a situation that can bring about tremendous stress for someone who had no care in the world.

Some teenagers just refuse to grow up and that becomes a struggle of the 'to be or not to be' kind leading to psychiatric counseling. What appeared to be a life with gay abandon is now laden with responsibilities which some shoulders are not ready to bear.
